International Women's Day
International Women's Day is celebrated on March 8 every year. This is a great day that is celebrated around the world to commemorate the success of women in the economic, political and social. Among the historical events are related, this celebration commemorates the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fire in New York in 1911 that resulted in 140 women lost their lives.
The idea of this festival was first put forward at the time of entering the 20th century in the midst of a wave of industrialization and economic expansion that led to the emergence of protests about working conditions. Women from clothing and textile factories held a protest on March 8, 1857 in New York City. The garment workers were protesting what they see as very poor working conditions and low pay levels. The protesters were attacked and dispersed by police. These women formed their union in the same month two years later.
In the West, International Women's Day is celebrated in around 1910's and 1920's, but then disappeared. The celebration was revived by the rise of feminism in the 1960s. In 1975, the United Nations began sponsoring International Women's Day.
